I Don’t Fit In

I was at a charity gala and the auctioneer came up to me and asked how I was. We made small talk as we hadn’t seen one another in two years. Now remember, I just noted, he is an auctioneer. Auctioneers are not quiet or shy by nature. Would you agree?  He was no different —  a handsome, dark haired man with such confidence he could ask a room full of affluent attendees to donate big $$$ and bid on overpriced auction items, that may or may not be used, or even worth it — but, of course all for a good cause.

Grab a copy of Yesterday’s Island, Today’s Nantucket for a list of all the things you can do on this small, quaint island

Flip flops, baskets and bikes
Runners and joggers, walkers and talkers

Jeeps and Land Rovers, Range Rovers and Mini’s whiz by on Union and Cliff Road to and from Town for coffee, for lunch, to visit Daryia Salon for a pedi, mani or blow out for an afternoon garden party or beach wedding.

Charming names, cute Lanes

Each home is marked by a boulder or rock with a numbered address or a name

Don’t Rock The Boat
Don’t Give Up The Ship
Hunky Dorey
Bottoms Up

What is the story behind each name?

And then there are the stores without names like
167 and 50 Cliff Road which, as locals know, mean the best fish market on the island on Hummock Road and Something Natural which is marked by a boulder and a mail box.

“Fresh” is the key word here on the island. Fresh lobster, fresh salmon, freshly baked Portuguese bread and the best, and yes, fresh yellow and white sweet corn. We ate fresh corn every night.

Whether you visit Nantucket by Sea, by Bike or by Air there is really so much to do especially to dine on the incredible fare. But reservations are a must. Not only do the popular homes rent out one year in advance but restaurants are booked well before the summer season has begun.

The question you will have to answer when choosing your “on island” retreat is
where will you slumber?

An inn or resort a home or an estate with a pool or a court or a short walk to town. Will you rent a car, a jeep, a bike or Vespa? Will you ferry or fly by air, if you dare.

Tom Nevers, Sconset, Dionis, Cliffside, Surfside, Madaket, Brant Point, Cisco or Town.

So much to share. So I’m off yet again on bike ride #2. My early afternoon jaunt to explore so much more

Loving life in Nantucket.

XOXO!

And of course I’m still attached to my work…by phone, text and email. But a lovely venue indeed.  You’ve got questions? I’ve got answers. Where to stay, where to eat or where to play. Just ask.

Mexico Trip

It is no secret, Piedmont is an affluent community. And with that comes great responsibility. On November 5th, 2015 the PCC “Mexico Magic” Boosters Club was born. Thank you to Debi Hemmeter for spearheading the movement, gathering like minded board members and organizing the launch party.

What is the Mexico Mission Trip? Excerpt from the Piedmont Community Church “Every Spring, more than two hundred high school students and adult leaders head South to build houses  for disadvantaged communities in Mexico. In 2015, 224 students and 50 adult volunteers built 17 houses in one week!” But that is just the tip of the iceberg. [Read More..]

Partner with a Local Realtor for Best Results

Be sure to partner with a Realtor who is looking out for your best interests. Your Realtor should be a specialist in the area you are seeking to sell or buy residential real estate. An honest agent, not a greedy one just seeking out a big commission will want the best for their client by referring a buyer or seller to another Realtor who knows the ins and the outs and the customs and the idiosyncrasies of that particular market, as well as the facts, that may or may not be public information. Likewise, a seller must realize that greed is not in their own best interest either. A seller hoping to transact a real estate deal on their own in order to forgo paying a real estate fee to a real estate professional will more often than not lose out.

Pictured above fellow colleagues and friends who specialize in various regions throughout California. If you are seeking to buy or sell outside of the East Bay please ask for a referral and I will be sure to connect you with a professional both compatible and one with the expertise in the market you are considering.
